Kaimu Black Sand Beach
Kaimu was a Hawaiian town located in the Puna district which was victim to the 1990 lava flow which not only destroyed Kaimu but neighboring Kalapana. Now it is a lovely beach to see, but not idea to swim in. The water is cold, the surf is often times rough and there isn't much beach. But it is a great place clear your head and even though it can be crowded at peak times it feels isolating calming. It is one of the hallmark experiences of going to the Big Island.
