Makalawena Beach is a pristine beach where locals and tourists in the know come to relax. The hike required to get to Makalawena is long but manageable. There are two entrances, one used by locals with 4x4 trucks and the entrance where parking is plentiful. If you're planning to hike down the 4x4 entrance is the closer hike but the normal park entrance has better parking and a flatter path. On the weekend locals camp at the beach and it's common for people to take their trucks down to the beach early. Makalawena is  arguably more beautiful than Hapuna and because it's so hard to reach it's often quiet with few visitors. If you're planning to hike bring plenty of water and sunblock.
